Built by Josh LLC was founded by Joshua McKinney, a builder with more than a decade of hands-on construction experience and a lifelong connection to the craft. Josh grew up around construction, learning the trade early from his father, Bryan McKinney, who built his childhood home, and his grandfather, Doug McKinney, who built numerous homes throughout his career. With a toolbelt on from a young age, building quickly became more than just work for Josh-it became a passion and legacy to carry forward.

Josh began his professional career around 2015 working alongside an experienced builder, where he learned early that building code represents only the minimum standard and that true craftsmanship requires going far beyond it. Working on high-end remodels and detailed additions helped shape the philosophy that still guides Built by Josh today.

After more than five years developing his skills in the trade, Josh stepped into a project management and crew foreman role constructing post-frame “barndominium” homes ranging from 700 to over 6,500 square feet. This experience allowed him to fully develop his passion for managing projects from the ground up and understanding what it truly takes to build a quality home starting from undisturbed soil.

In the spring of 2023, he launched Built by Josh LLC with a focus on high quality detail-driven projects. Today, the company specializes in custom single slope homes designed around each clients vision, including layout, roof lines, window placement, site orientation, and foundation type. While custom homes are a primary focus, Built by Josh LLC continues to perform select renovation and improvement projects each year, staying connected to the customers and community that helped build the company from the beginning.

Built by Josh LLC is not a volume builder-we are a precision builder. We take on a limited number of projects each year to ensure each client receives our full attention, time, and craftsmanship their project deserves. Josh personally serves as the owner and project manager for Built by Josh LLC and remains present on the jobsite to ensure each stage of construction meets his level of standards. The company operates on a foundation of honesty, transparency, and integrity. We believe in establishing clear, realistic pricing from the start and standing behind it. Our clients are never sold unrealistic numbers or rushed into decisions. Instead, we focus on planning, communication, and delivering exceptional results that are truly beautiful.
